Most Americans are not presented with an opportunity to communicate their views on the actions undertaken in our name directly to the President. Sarah Olds, when presented with such an opportunity, voiced her disagreement eloquently and gave voice to the views of so many Americans who lack that opportunity. I have long believed that an appropriate method of communicating my disagreement with the actions of this administration would be to simply quietly turn away were I ever to encounter the President. Of course, the chances of his crossing my path are slim and none based on my residence in a blue state and the lack of suitable photo ops presented for him in my community. Maybe there are some Gulf residents who feel as I do who will do so when he makes his next appearance there.

I find myself facing a local election that saddens me, government on local, state and national levels that angers and exhausts me. Why, then, is it that I can still walk into the voting booth instead of staying away as so many of my fellow citizens do? Why is it that the fight continues although the names of the battlegrounds, or at least some of them, have changed? Why is it that I can read this and have it bring tears to my eyes? Ok, that one at least has an answer.
